Southbank Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008

Hallmark aromas and pungency of passionfruit and red capsicum define this as classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Zesty citrusy notes with an elegant herbaceousness dart through the fruit complimenting the finely textured mid-palate. Gooseberry and tropical fruit notes dance across the long back palate weaving through the full flavour of a long, dry summer. The finish is refreshed by an effusive acidity so true to Marlborough. Enjoy young with home made pizza topped with green lipped mussels, goats cheese and sun dried tomatoes.

Southbank Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Rose 2008

A unique nose contrasting the vibrancy of Sauvignon Blanc with a gentle burst of strawberries and raspberries. The signature zest of gooseberry and passionfruit so typical of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is slightly softened and flavoured by the red fruit on both the nose and palate. The mid-palate is fresh and crisp with a soft core of fruit and an invigoratingly dry finish. A terrific partner with the bounty of summer – serve it with salads of new potatoes and green beans, steamed whole fish and pan seared scallops sprinkled with fresh herbs.

Southbank Estate Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2007

Subtle notes of lemon curd, grapefruit and oatmeal rise gently from the glass before weaving back into the wine. The front palate is distinctly intense, concentrated and poised. Oak and leesy notes sit as a backdrop to beautiful fruit. Seamlessly integrated no single character defines the wine aromatically. Fine texture and deft balance move effortlessly into a persistent finish. With the integrity to age well up to ten years, this is also a treat to enjoy young with a puff pasty chicken pie and sautéed field mushrooms.

Southbank Estate Hawkes Bay Syrah 2006

A fruit expressive Syrah, lively and concentrated, firm yet poised reflecting the excellent vintage. Initially the aromas lift with blueberry and red fruit, completed by characteristic black olive, licorice and spice and saddle-leather notes. The concentration begins at the very front palate, adds depth and flesh to the mid palate before moving seamlessly into the long, restrained, rounded tannins of the finish. Approachable now with aeration yet hiding so much, to unravel over the coming years. The elegant tannins will work beautifully with venison, rare beef or roast pork dishes.

Southbank Estate Hawkes Bay Merlot 2007

This year’s Merlot shows a greater concentration of flavour and substance of tannin than we’ve seen in recent years. Dried tobacco leaf, cassis and black Doris plum notes soar from this deeply coloured red, born of rich ripe fruit in an excellent vintage. In the mouth full body and soft, but very well formed tannins make for a tasty and elegant mid-palate. Fanning out across the back palate the aromas persist and tannins linger to a very pleasant finish. Enjoy with rare beef or braised ox cheek and polenta.

Southbank Estate Marlborough Pinot Noir 2007

Noticeably concentrated the wine unfurls to reveal aromas of dark summer berries and baked red cherry with a nuance of liquorice root, characters promised on the nose further revealed on the palate. Always an elegant wine this vintage has an extra layer of texture entwined with the fruit and the subtle cedary notes of French oak. A fulsome back palate moves into the long, tight and rewarding finish. Cellar with confidence for five to seven years or enjoy young with tasty lamb shoulder or crispy skinned roast pork.
